herd Care

  • By J-DClaypoolranch

Our herd health program is developed with our particular environment and cattle in mind.  We consult regularly with our local veterinarians as well as attend numerous cattle educational meetings yearly.  In addition we have a close partnership with the Noble Foundation and NRCS (National Resources Conservation Services).

We strictly follow the guidelines set forth by BQA (Beef Quality Assurance) and only BQA certified personnel handle our cattle during vaccinations or medicating.

All cows are vaccinated yearly to provide protection against aborting and known bovine diseases.

All service age bulls are vaccinated yearly to provide protection against known bovine diseases as well as yearly fertility exams.

All calves are given 3 rounds of vaccinations to provide protection against known bovine diseases and tested for BVD-PI.  All heifer calves are Bangs vaccinated and tagged.  All heifer calves are blood carded for DNA testing.  This testing provides additional information to make choices regarding replacement heifer quality.

We provide year round, free choice access to Vita Ferm cattle mineral.  Our nutritional program does not include the use of any growth hormones or antibiotics.
